some chicks know all the right things to say, eyy

Been feeling really weird this week.  The boyfriend's mother and father were in Canada last week or the week before, and his mother picked up some infection, pneumonia or really bad flu or something.  I'm been feeling a bit run down because of that.  It's put a bit of a downer on my week :(

It was the postgraduate graduation on Wednesday - my boyfriend deferred his graduation by a year, to go travelling for 6 months and you're only allowed to defer it once at my university.  He got a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Diploma of (insert university name) (which comes with the PhD).  The robes are so much cooler than those from my own graduation.  I got to try them on and put the hood on, so I got to be an honorary academic doctor for about 10 minutes.  He wanted his prize(s) announced at the ceremony (as that's the only time you're meant to clap) but he was too late and they are external prizes, but he won a prize from a couple of years ago so he got mentioned.  I've never sat through a graduation ceremony before.  I spent some of the time watching the TV screen for people to pull funny poses, and the rest looking through one of my textbooks.

We went to a really good Chinese restaurant after, which I have wanted to go to for a long long time.  Sidenote: Basically, I read about it in one of my parents' newspapers or magazines (as a side note, they buy newspapers and get free ones.  Communist newspapers are apparently not allowed inside the superstore from which my parents buy their weekly news, but my parents still get them so they know what those Communist people are saying) - my dad used to work in some famous Chinese restaurants and I have tried most things he has made.  I have this weird view about Chinese food - a lot of the food you get here in England, especially London, has been Westernised to suit the Western palate (those delicate people) so that is one of the reasons I don't eat Chinese food much when I am away from home.  A lot of my friends either don't like Chinese food, or won't eat it, or have food restrictions or just don't share my enthusiasm.
Anyway, it was really lovely - I'd say what it was called but then it would give away where I live and which school I go to.  I mean, you can guess, but I won't say it here.

But I am very proud of "the boy" - he mocks me sometimes for calling him this here and on twitter.  I hope the official ending to his postgraduate degree marks the start of bright things to his RA career.

Other than those two events, I've just been feeling a bit under the weather, out of sorts and strange.  Had neck ache and a headache for a few days, think I overdid it at the weekend with studying :(

I need a hug.

when it comes down to it, it's all just a game, eyy
