Day 28 - your favourite movie

I don't think I have a favourite movie.  A lot of people I know know what their favourite movie is, because they watch it a lot.  I watch films once mostly, and sometimes I download it a few years later to watch it again to see if I still find it as good.  I think Star Trek was and is the only film I have seen in the cinema twice....  Wait, I think I saw Spiderman 3 twice?


So instead of telling you what my favourite movie is, I thought I would share the films I am looking forward to in 2011.

Er.. I still look pretty much the same, but I have a BSc.  I am older and therefore wiser  (haha), and have more knowledge.. also my hair is a slightly different colour.  Probably still as ditzy!!

Day 25 - a photo of somewhere you've been to

I realise that this is not a picture of a physical place, but I have been to see the real painting, and this is the photographic proof!  It is Lo Sposalizio ('the wedding' in Italian) otherwise known as 'The Marriage of the Virgin', painted in oil by Raphael.  A lot of paintings are affectionately known by a shorter title, like La Joconde.  This painting now lives in the Pinacoteca di Brera, a beautiful art gallery with a beautiful Palazzo.  The Pinacoteca houses some other famous paintings, including a Caravaggio (P's favourite artist.  I have yet to decide upon one) and a painting called 'The Kiss' which reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean.  The Caravaggio has an older sibling that lives in the National Gallery, which I suspect P has admired at length but I do not recall seeing, and I suspect holiday + gallery visiting + Caravaggio love would mean we'd make it to the Pinacoteca eventually.


So Lo Sposalizio lives in a slightly darkened room separate from the other artworks, and he is opposite a projected powerpoint presentation detailing the history behind Raphael's decision to paint this painting, and all the small tiny details it includes.  After it finishes, you are meant better educated in a work of Raphael, thus can turn around with knowledge that you know what you are looking for/at.

Day 24: what's in your purse?

By purse, I assume this means 'thing that holds money etc', not 'something you wear on your elbow or your shoulder'.  My bag has the usual things in it though, nothing wildly exciting.
P's mum got me a purse for Christmas, a pink one with a heart shaped lock from Accessorize.  It is the same colour as the one I had previously, and is a lot smaller.

Er, so it has two zipped areas, one for coins and one for notes/important things

Under the flap of the left hand side: loyalty cards from food places, a receipt, bits of paper


Right from top: old oyster card for spare, European health insurance card, o2 top up card, Boots advantage card, Swarovski styleforum card (whose purpose is unknown to me but it is shiny)

I was too lazy to take everything out... and also for personal reasons.  I don't want everyone seeing my card details, even if just for the library or my European health insurance.

Day 20 – The meaning behind your blog name

I've had several names during this blog's life, but none ever really fit properly.  I've had "sei-maow" for a while now... at least a couple of years.  Maybe 2 or 3.  Anyway, it means "kitten" in Cantonese, literally translating to 'little/small cat'.  You pronounce it "say mao" (as in Chairman Mao).  My family speaks Cantonese with me, and this is my most often used nickname.  (My parents only call me rarely call me by my name)  My pet name from P is (sometimes) "kitten" so it is also fitting.

This is going to be a bad post... I think my parents don't want me posting pictures of them somewhere public (various reasons). I hope you understand, and I will publish the next day (day 19) to make up for this.

Day 17 – 10 Things I Want To Do Before I Die

1. get married - this is very high on my list of life priorities.  I know there are some people who just don't see marriage as a big deal, but I have known for a long time that I want to get married, in the sense that sometime in the future, I wish to get married.  It's something that is important to me.  I also want to have children.  Sticking with tradition = :)

2. see a reindeer in real life - this is a throwback to something that happened a few years ago and I am still uncertain as to their realness

3. visit Vietnam - to experience a different culture and see where my family grew up

4. live in another country

5. completely redecorate my house and make it my own

6. grow old gracefully and stylishly

7. have no regrets

8. climb a mountain. No mean feat, as I hate walking long distances, I hate the cold and I am scared of very very high heights.  Also I cannot carry anything more than 20kg for a long time.

9. go to space .... highly unrealistic and if it were available, it would be hard for me to do (see #8) but it would still be fun. Kinda. For a while, before I get scared.

10. be happy :)

Ooh... I go through phases of style crushing... but not real celebrity crushes.  I used to, when I was a teenager as most people did, but now as I am getting older, it's the celebrity's fashion style that makes me sit up and notice them.  So here are the ones I can remember writing.  I have written one about Emma Watson but haven't really had time to do much to it, so it remains in my drafts.

Hmmm.. I am not too sure what to put for this.  I know.  MY KEYS.  Otherwise I would never be able to get back in!


I have a high keyring to key ratio, because I am forever misplacing them so if I can hear them jingle, then I know they are in my bag, or in my pocket, or I can find them more easily.

Day 14 – A TV show you’re currently addicted to

Gossip Girl!!


I loooove this show.  I bought the first book, which I think is called 'Gossip Girl' on a trip to the shops when I did some in-house work experience (of which I have some very fond memories!) I was with another girl, called Mel; she was a Glaswegian, and she was studying Philosophy or Psychology, and with a very sweet old lady, who was wheelchair bound.  The work experience involved living in a respite centre for a week, and helping the disabled guests and taking them out to see local attractions (the place where we were staying was actually very pretty) and so their carers could have a break too.


So we were in this bookshop, and it was one of those that sold books that weren't that popular, and had loads and loads of copies of them, loads on sale.  So I saw this book, and it looked fun because it had a gold cover, with a picture of some people at a party, except you couldn't see their faces.  The blurb looked interesting, and so I bought the book.  A week later, when I got home I read it, and thought it served very well as a standalone (is that one word?) book, and only realised a few years later that it was a series.


Gossip Girl was picked up by The CW in 2006 or 2007, and is on its fourth season.  I only started to watch it this April, partway through the third season.  I wasn't really aware of it as a show in the previous years and felt that the memory of my reading that book and watching the show would not correlate.  Nevertheless, when P went away, I downloaded lots of TV shows and films, and Gossip Girl was one of them.  It was during my History of Medicine project, where I would keep very odd hours and get sniffly due to dusty archives.


For those of you who don't know, the show basically revolves around a group of friends on the Upper East Side in New York who are spoilt and privileged.  It follows them through their school years as juniors, seniors, freshmen and then university.  They get up to crazy things and try to one-up each other and their exploits are reported on a website which sends out text "blasts" by a site called Gossip Girl, whose creator is still unknown, but is voiced by Kristen Bell.


I watched all 60 episodes or whatever had been made in about a week; it reminds me of being at school, with all the plotting and bitching and trying to outdo other people.. I never really partook in these things; I was just an observer.


The fashion in Gossip Girl has also been acclaimed; the main characters seem to wear different outfits all the time, without really recycling anything, but it's not a bad thing.  As I wrote in the post about Jenny Humphrey / Taylor Momsen, the fashion is very pretty.

Boys Like Girls

I first heard of Boys Like Girls when I went to see Plain White T's in 2008 at the Shepherd's Bush Empire.. they supported and did 3 or 4 songs.  There were two American girls in front of me, and one girl I made friends with at the concert and I were saying how we'd never heard of them (or the other support band) and then these girls turned round and said they were big in America.  (As things turned out, Plain White T's have turned out to be a bit of a one-hit wonder with their song Hey There Delilah, and Cartel still haven't made many waves in the UK music scene)  Then I saw them again supporting Fall Out Boy at Wembley later that year, so I downloaded their album and have been a fan ever since :-)


They've had two albums to date but not that many singles.  I love them lots because their music always cheers me up when I feel down.. I can have a dance about my room and sing badly and loudly to make myself feel better (such that I am fairly convinced my neighbour knows all the words to their songs too).

Day 12 - 15 random facts about you

1. I have a thing about putting my bag or my clothes or bedclothes on the floor... I just have some irrational idea that they'll get dirty and therefore should stay above ground.


2. Sometimes I wonder if it's a 'grown up' thing to have a dark/neutral coloured coat.  The coats I have had for the past few years have been pink or purple.....


3. I find cleaning up my room to be very therapeutic.


4. I always try to get maximum value out of my travelcards on my oyster card.


5. Very often, I wake up with bruises on my legs.  This may be because I sustained unknown injury the day before, or because I kick myself in my sleep.


6. I own clothing from several different world cultures, including Japan, India, Hawaii and China.


7. When I feel too lazy to make lunch / dinner / any meal really, I make toast.


8. If I think of sour foods or lemons, I can taste that bitter taste in my mouth.


9. Diaries / organisers are very useful to me, but then I always end up not needing one as I remember most of the important things that I have written down.


10. I passed my driving test first time round with only 3 minors.  I have had my licence for 4.5 years.  My licence came in the post on my 18th birhday =)


11. I have a CD of farm animal noises in French which I got as a Christmas present a couple of years ago.  I still have not opened it.


12. I have benign hypermobility syndrome.  A rheumatologist diagnosed it for me in a rheumatology tutorial about a month ago.


13. I don't like writing in blue ink anymore.


14. I have been named as 'assistant surgeon' in a theatre list.


15. I can tell my computer to fix basic internet issues by programming.

on the eleventh day

Day 11 – What’s in your makeup bag?

This is a very artificial post.  I don't really wear any make-up, partly because I hate the feeling of feeling it on my face.  So a lot of stuff in my "make up bag" are eye products, as I'm okay with those.


As far as the bag goes.. it's just a free thing I got with some samples.  Most of the stuff I have isn't make-up.. more nail polishes and skin products.

I also think a lot of make-up is expensive, so don't buy it (much).  MAC products in particular are very expensive, and I got these two eyeshadows as gifts.  I'd never buy their things myself.

I suppose I wear eye make-up more nowadays.  I've been reading reviews of Eyeko make-up so I got one of their eyeliners, and use that most days.  Just because I don't wear it doesn't mean I don't know how and what it does :)
