This is a more cheery song, in contrast to the one in the post below.  Needed something to cheer me up out of my sad moment.  This is one of the earliest videos I could find of this song, from 2004; I love the crowd interaction and how each performance from 2004/05 is individual.

i would have stayed up with you all night

Remember when this song came out?  Five years ago, now, right?  I first heard it those years ago, but it didn't have any personal meaning to me.  Then I heard this song around the time when my last grandparent died.  It was also on that episode of Scrubs where those patients die from rabies due to those organ transplants.  I forget exactly what happened in this episode but I remember watching it after the passing of my grandparent, and maybe hearing this song triggers that memory, and made me cry.


What am I saying, 'maybe'.  It DOES.  I cried just now when I played this song to check the quality before I blogged about it.  I only have to hear that chorus once and I well up.  I've seen people die (in a clinical setting) and the feeling that I feel each time it happens does not lessen with each time.  It stays the same, but I deal with it a little better.  It just goes to show me, in some small and sad way, that life is not a rehearsal for something that will happen later, and that no matter how hard we try sometimes, we can't save everyone.

Knowing things - that moment when stuff clicks and you feel less stressed as things are falling into place.  I can't decide if this is a good thing or not for me.

I remember the days when I knew all the words to this whole album, and this CD was always in the CD player, and this was my favourite song.

I like The Pierces.  They are an American folk rock/pop duo; they are sisters from Alabama and their music has been featured in Gossip Girl (season 1) and apparently one of their songs is the Pretty Little Liars theme tune (I have no regard for this TV show).  Their music isn't that mainstream, despite being signed to a major music label, which is a huge shame.  Their music is the kind that I'd listen to on a rainy day if I felt down, or if it was a hot summery late afternoon/evening.  It has that summery feel, but a dark undertone and something old fashioned about it.


What do you think?  I like their cover of Alejandro (above) too :)  They should be more famous.

our memories, well they can be inviting

I heard these two songs recently, and they made me feel old.. but somehow, not in a bad way.  I remember these songs from a long long time ago (Wikipedia tells me they are from 1996/7).  I can never explain what I mean when I say I connect songs with a certain memory.  There are some songs that evoke memories for me, and I can 'see' myself in this memory.. I suppose the music acts as a stimulant for the memory, so that I remember it, like an audio part of the memory.







This song was out around the time when there were some relatively big changes in my life, and decisions leading to them.  This is one of the songs I remember watching and I see it as a 'bridge' between the life I had and the life I went on to have (not that there was a huge distinction.  In my mind, there was anyway).




I will always like this song :)









Not all that unexpected for a preteen girl, I loved all the boy and girl bands of the 90's (most of them anyway). There seemed to be doing lots of crazy dancing and singing... a hallmark of manufactured boybands, with loads of screaming girls.  For example, Backstreet Boys... even with these relatively slower songs, they were still swaying and "dancing" :S so I suppose now they've grown up, they can't do that anymore.  I find it weird listening to "I want it that way" like this now: I recently found a punk version of it, that seems to have replaced the original for me.

Urgh.  You know that feeling when you've been awake for too long and your whole body gets weak and you feel sick?  That's how I've felt for the past week and a half.  Been on labour ward, and hitting it hard, so that I can get the right combination of deliveries.  Basically, on O&G, we all spend time on labour ward, understanding the process of labour and the monitoring needed, and also to see the movement of the baby as it is delivered.  It has been known for being very tiring.  So we need to get 10 deliveries, through whichever method, meaning a normal vaginal delivery (SVD = spontaneous vaginal delivery), an instrumental delivery (ventouse/kiwi or forceps) which help to deliver the baby's head, or a Caesarean section.  I did five shifts in total, three nights and two day time ones... very tiring.  So in the past week and a half, on three separate occasions, I have been awake for over 30 hours (most was 35 hours).  It is painful, sitting through clinic and tutorials wishing the time would go by quicker so that you can finally get home and sleep.


It has certainly been a wonderful and life changing experience :)  This past week and a half has not been the first time I have seen babies being born, but it was still a huge privilege all the same.  I am not usually one for using twitter to talk about my medicine life all the time; I get a bit annoyed when medics are like, "I saw this and this and this today and I did this interesting medical related thing".  So I've tried not to use twitter to talk about delivering babies all the time over the past few nights.  Staying awake for 32, 35 and 37 hours over 9 days really takes it out on you though; it is not advised.  Do not try this at home.


Been trying to study, and failing... I've come home the past few days and been too tired to do anything.  Started watching Junior Doctors on BBC iplayer, finally.  It is very interesting, but I'm going to wait until I've seen a few more episodes before I pass judgement on some of the doctors on it.


Also.. in love with this song.  Skylar Grey helped to write both versions of Love the Way You Lie.  She has a hauntingly beautiful voice.













Here is the original Love the Way You Lie song.  Whatever you think about this song, you can't deny that the rapping is lyrically very clever.

embracing the emo

I've been in an emo/angsty-music sort of mood of recent, in particular, these songs.  I often find that the song content is very depressing and woe-is-me type, but I don't feel like that.
I used to really love Panic at the Disco, and it reminds me of when I was in sixth form.  I don't know.. I go through phases of liking certain music :)

fast lives stuck in the undertow

Made more changes to my blog, as I am so wont to do.  Just had a week off, for study and consolidation and to relax a little bit.  It wasn't really that much needed, as I'd only been in school for 6 weeks previously, but I suppose it's like a half term. (?)  I studied a lot, read a lot, er... went to A's birthday party at ASK on Friday, went to London Fashion Weekend, watched some TV, slept quite a bit.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

Watched the first (proper first) Star Wars film - I can't remember its name.  The acting was so poor, for all parties concerned.  Alec Baldwin was quite good, and Harrison Ford was passable, but for the most part, I cannot imagine why this film in particular sparked such a following.  Maybe I need to watch the rest.  I watched the film without any preconceptions or knowing who was who or what happens, but I think you do need to watch them all to understand what's happening.  How otherwise, if I was watching it alone, am I meant to know that there are desert people who are good, and that Princess Leia is Luke's brother, and that Darth Vader in fact does not have asthma?  And the force thing.  Hmmm.  Maybe it's something that comes with watching the trilogy.  I know basically what happens and I know who most of the main characters are.
