Molly Bakes

From what I have gathered, Molly is a lady who started baking cakes when she found herself out of a job.  She got popular, word spread and she set up a stall at Brick Lane Market.  She now does orders for big companies and events like for ASOS, Juicy Couture, celebrities who want nice looking cakes, and sells her cake pops in Selfridge's too! There's been a big increase in independent bakers of recent, I guess trying to emulate the success of The Hummingbird Bakery and to try and capture that homemade feel, but someone else has made it.

Oh, this is what it says on her page.

In early 2009, the day before her birthday Molly Bakes found herself out of a job. Instead of being sad, she saw it as the perfect opportunity to try something new. After all, she had never really enjoyed talking on the phone or making cups of tea all day.
Many days and weeks passed, when Molly grew bored. She had tried a few different things when suddenly she remembered a secret cupcake recipe in her mother's cake book. So she decided to try her hand at baking. Molly had never seen herself as the Domestic Goddess type but to her surprise she found baking most sexy as well as therapeutic for her idle hands.
A few hours later the most delicious and whimsical cupcakes in a myriad of candy colours and designs were created. Molly was so impressed with her new found skills she gave them to all her friends. And they loved what they tasted. News of this fabulous baker spread like wildfire and soon enough Molly Bakes' cakes were in demand from everyone.

----------------------------------------
In just 18 short months it feels like Molly Bakes really has done it all. Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined she'd be baking for the likes of Elle MacPherson, Katie Price, Jodie Harsh and other celebs as well as big brands such as Blackberry, Juicy Couture, Britains Next Top Model and ASOS.
Molly was the first baker in London to introduce cake pops in January 2010 and has had her delicious range stocked in Selfridges Food Hall since June 2010. She has even sent cake pops as far as Germany for a Blackberry event and to New York for a Teen Vogue party.
Molly is a member of the Mad Artist's Tea Party a creative collective of bakers and confectioners created by Miss Cakehead.
2011 looks set to be an even bigger year for Molly Bakes as in June her first book will be published! 50 amazing cake pop recipes!

It is probably common knowledge throughout this blog that I am a bit partial to cake, and nice looking cake appeals to me also!!!

So from all the Molly Bakes pages, here are my favourite looking ones.  All links posted below; these are where I got the photos from.  I am not being paid to write this, nor am I benefitting in any way from this post (other than ogling cakes).

RRcherrypie

These videos are ridiculous.  Firstly, you can actually buy processed things like this, and make them with water or whatever.  Think of all the chemicals and stuff?  A lot of these videos make sweets and the like, and for quite a cheap price.  If you look in the notes under the videos, the prices are like, 200 Japanese yen.  That's £1.50.

If you go onto the page: http://www.youtube.com/user/RRcherrypie, there are many more...  Over 50.

Secondly, someone's actually taken the time to make these videos, take photos and upload them onto youtube.

Thirdly, people comment and say they love the noises in the videos.

Fourthly, that these videos had me hooked in for a half hour!!!

What do you think?  Would something like this work here in the UK?

Sailor Moon

Despite my love for Gossip Girl, I rarely watch TV shows on television or on the internet, and watch tv even rarer than that.

One TV show I absolutely loved when I was younger was Sailor Moon (dubbed in Cantonese).  The episodes would mostly focus on the five characters to the left (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Moon) so my knowledge of those other five to the right (Chibi Moon, Neptune, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto in whichever order...) is lacking.

I remember that little phrase that Sailor Moon would say when she transformed, and her hair curls changed, and she had a tiara looking thing, and her dress changed.  I looooved that show: I haven't been able to find it anywhere to download (not that I have looked too hard) and especially in Chinese.  I stumbled across an episode once whilst flicking through Sky channels, and it was in English, and I couldn't understand why it was in English.  To me, it was a show that was Chinese, it helped me to learn a lot of conversational Cantonese during a time when I found it hard to absorb more Chinese vocabulary.

I don't even remember the content of the episodes.  The main 3 characters at first were schoolfriends and argued a lot, and there was a cat.  New people joined the group, like Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus, and they fought magical type crime together.  Maybe I should wikipedia it.

Edit: found a youtube channel where all 200 episodes are uploaded.  Made my night, that did :)  Having watched a couple of them, I am a little confused about which language I watched SM in - Japanese or Cantonese.  Not that they are similar, just that I don't remember the voices as well as the scenes.

балет ~ balletre

relevance unknown, but pretty

not normally a colour I associate with ballet (not sure why) but pretty

I love ballet.  There's something very elegant and visually eloquent about it.  I knew a lot of ballet dancers when I was younger, but never had the co-ordination or body build for it. (Also strength).  The ballet shoe look often flirts with fashion and comes into season and out of season, and I feel like the movement towards what I call dolly shoes has been based on ballet shoes.

Have you seen any ballet recently?  Any recommendations?

This may or may not have happened when I was younger.

PS. Happy Chinese and English birthday to my dad!

jeudi

I love the pool party part, but I can't decide if there is too much awkwardness!  But I still love this song.

Boulevard of Broken Songs, from American Edit.  Having a bit of a Green Day revival to be honest.

Knowing things - that moment when stuff clicks and you feel less stressed as things are falling into place.  I can't decide if this is a good thing or not for me.

Sunshiiiiiine. Gossiping. Napping. Having a tidy flat.

Also, I love the idea of having a magic fairy that does the washing up, tidying up, stocks the fridge and folds my clothes.

thursdayyyyy

Going to make this into a more regular tradition, with things I love. On Thursdays. Or thereabouts. (inspired by galadarling.com)  It also helps me appreciate the small things, when I feel stressed or a bit low.

I love these two pictures of Katy Perry, from this month's (June 2011) issue of Vanity Fair respectively.  I never read Vanity Fair, but I like how Katy Perry is styled in magazine shoots; she has a very elegant but uniquely crazy sense of style.  The first picture especially looks very Russian. Both images are from google images ♥

Momiji goodies!!!

On the left: Pixie, a pink dressed white blonde haired doll with a cupcake.
On the right: "Birthday girl" keyring.  Didn't show all my keys + keyrings.  I have a ridiculous amount.  It's so I can shake my bag and hear them jingle and know they're in there.

I also got another keyring but don't have a use for it yet.

Kawaii, non?

things i love right now

from google images

As a homage to Gala Darling, whose blog I discovered via another one that I follow, I am doing a Things I Love Thursday!  It is aptly named too, as you shall see....

♥ I love my boyfriend for calming me down during the Easter holiday when I was stressing (many times) and he reassured me that I knew things.  (cheesy I know!)  It is his graduation next week too, which I am sure I shall love.

♥ I love the sunshine - it makes everyone happy and everything looks better.  Those streets which look a bit dingy?  Add some sun, and they look lovely.  It provides Vitamin D production, it makes skin conditions better, it makes you happy and warm!  (Just make sure you stay sun safe!)

♥ I love Momiji - those dolls are so cute.  Many minutes were spent looking at them.

♥ I love Twitter - like a live feed of some of my thoughts.  Those who know me in real life know the real me; it probably translates online too.  I could never be one of those medical tweeters that smugly tweet how many patients they saw and how many histories they took and the fact that they are revising a lot.  Hello, if you were revising, would you be tweeting? Well, I lie, I tweet sometimes on breaks during revision.  But anyway!  If you know me in real life, or if you are observant, follow me!

♥ I love Olay's anti ageing skin care range.

♥ I love the fact that there is a Royal Wedding tomorrow!!!! (hence the picture above!)  I love love love the Royal Family - the Queen obviously did not choose to be queen, although she could have said no.  She represents us as a country, just like the pound does.  Which is why we can not join the Euro.  I am pleased that Wills is getting married.  I just hope people don't compare Kate to Princess Diana. (( l♥ved her too)

What things do you love at the moment?
