2010 memories

2010 was a year full of many memories, without that many photos.  Every year seems to get better (compared to the previous year) in its own way but a while back, I made a list of goals I want to achieve before I am 30.  This year, I ticked some of them off :)

Anyway, these are some of the memories I'd like to share with you... the ones I can remember right now anyway!

I feel as though I have grown up a lot (though it may not be obvious on first/second/third etc glance).. I've lived alone for several months, without my best friend, and I came to realise how much I came to depend on him, and after being apart for a long time, I realised I can be self sufficient (to the extent that my lifestyle allows).

Along with many of my friends, I graduated.

I fell in love with Russell Square, when I went to slave over archived material at the Senate House Library.  I feel that SHL does not respond well to people wearing clothing from universities that are no longer affiliated with UL.  I don't know... Russell Square just seems to be a place of calmness in a very busy place.  It makes me happy.

I went to my first wedding - P's brother married a psychiatrist who works near where my parents live (sort of); I'd never seen her before, and I don't think P had.  It was held in the place where I had my U6 prom (which P refers to as 'debs') and so it was lovely to see all the familiar places and rooms and grounds.

Vivienne Westwood held a shoe exhibiton in Selfridge's, which I guess was to advertise her many shoes and to coincide with the shoe gallery - there were many fluttering hearts and reluctant boyfriends/husbands.  I hardly left the house on Sundays when P was away - it was my day of lounging about with my books or magazines or files or laptop in bed, but I made special effort to see VW's creations.  I've long wanted a pair of her shoes now, but as with most things I want, I find that the 'want' is transitory, and after a few weeks I don't want them anymore.  But the Westwood shoes have an intermittent want.  I also have a fashion-ful weekend, going to London Fashion Weekend.

My mum had a huge operation, called a microvascular decompression - there are youtube videos.  She is thankfully now okay :)

I had a great birthday celebration with my friends!  It was a joint birthday celebration, with one of my friends

I ate many many Easter eggs... the last one survived three months, but only because I hid it!

excuse the blurriness!

I went to the Hunterian Museum, to look at strange, weird and wonderful specimens, and The Evelyn Tables... I saw The Comedy of Errors at The Globe and have great chat after, which still makes me laugh.

This post and this post become the most viewed posts I have ever published. Blogger has this thing where you can see what people have googled to get to your blog.  Well, the searches people have used for these posts have made my blog first on the google page for one consistently.  Thankyou P.

These videos make the rounds, stereotyping medical specialities...  I have inexplicable love for this song.. if I have my music player on, I play it at least 5 times.  Oh, and this song too.  I saw Xiaxue sing it in one of her tv show videos.  I get a bit flaky and have weight issues and food issues and image issues.

Hmm.. an interesting year.

How was your 2010?

Angelina Jolie Early life and family

Angelina Jolie born June 4, 1975, née Angelina Jolie Voight, is an American actress. She has received an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. Jolie promotes humanitarian causes, and is noted for her work with refugees as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She has been cited as one of the world's most attractive people, as well as the world's "most beautiful" woman, titles for which she has received substantial media attention.
Though she made her screen debut as a child alongside her father Jon Voight in the 1982 film Lookin' to Get Out, Jolie's acting career began in earnest a decade later with the low-budget production Cyborg 2 (1993). Her first leading role in a major film was in Hackers (1995). She starred in the critically acclaimed biographical films George Wallace (1997) and Gia (1998), and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the drama Girl, Interrupted (1999). Jolie achieved wider fame after her portrayal of video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), and since then has established herself as one of the best-known and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. She has had her biggest commercial successes with the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) and the animated film Kung Fu Panda (2008).
Divorced from actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie currently lives with actor Brad Pitt, in a relationship that has attracted worldwide media attention. Jolie and Pitt have three adopted children, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, as well as three biological children, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.

Early life and family
Born in Los Angeles, California, Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She is the niece of singer-songwriter Chip Taylor, sister of James Haven and the goddaughter of actors Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. On her father's side, Jolie is of Czechoslovak and German descent, and on her mother's side she is French Canadian and is said to be of Iroquois ancestry. However, Voight has claimed Bertrand was "not seriously Iroquois", and they merely said it to enhance her exotic background.
After her parents' separation in 1976, Jolie and her brother were raised by their mother, who abandoned her acting ambitions and moved with them to Palisades, New York. As a child, Jolie regularly saw movies with her mother and later explained that this had inspired her interest in acting; she had not been influenced by her father. When she was eleven years old, the family moved back to Los Angeles and Jolie decided she wanted to act and enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, where she trained for two years and appeared in several stage productions.
At the age of 14, she dropped out of her acting classes and dreamed of becoming a funeral director. During this period, she wore black clothing, dyed her hair purple and went out moshing with her live-in boyfriend. Two years later, after the relationship had ended, she rented an apartment above a garage a few blocks from her mother's home. She returned to theatre studies and graduated from high school, though in recent times she has referred to this period with the observation, "I am still at heart—and always will be—just a punk kid with tattoos".
She later recalled her time as a student at Beverly Hills High School (and later Moreno High School), and her feeling of isolation among the children of some of the area's more affluent families. Jolie's mother survived on a more modest income, and Jolie often wore second-hand clothes. She was teased by other students who also targeted her for her distinctive features, for being extremely thin, and for wearing glasses and braces. Her self-esteem was further diminished when her initial attempts at modeling proved unsuccessful. She started to cut herself; later commenting, "I collected knives and always had certain things around. For some reason, the ritual of having cut myself and feeling the pain, maybe feeling alive, feeling some kind of release, it was somehow therapeutic to me."
Jolie was estranged from her father for many years. The two tried to reconcile and he appeared with her in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). In July 2002, Jolie filed a request to legally change her name to "Angelina Jolie", dropping Voight as her surname; the name change was made official on September 12, 2002. In August of the same year, Voight claimed that his daughter had "serious mental problems" on Access Hollywood. Jolie later indicated that she no longer wished to pursue a relationship with her father, and said, "My father and I don't speak. I don't hold any anger toward him. I don't believe that somebody's family becomes their blood. Because my son's adopted, and families are earned." She stated that she did not want to publicize her reasons for her estrangement from her father, but because she had adopted her son, she did not think it was healthy for her to associate with Voight. In February 2010, Jolie publicly reunited with her father when he visited her while filming The Tourist in Venice.

Christmas Eve!!!!

I am writing to you on Christmas Eve, one of the best nights of the year... I hope you are all home and warm, having lots of fun! :)  I've been home for 5 days now and done lots of productive things.

There's been less of a festive feeling this year, despite all the decorations being up for months and months, and me actually buying Christmas presents before Christmas (for P's parents) but maybe that's just because I was so busy in the weeks before I came home.  We have lots of snow and slush and ice... it's just as Christmas should be.  In the minus degrees, with lots of warm things, lots of food and a lot of happy times.  I hope this Christmas brings you lots of festive cheer, wherever you are reading this right now and lots of cosy memories.

Contrary to previous years, I shall not have a rant about the increasing commercialisation of Christmas and gift giving, but instead I shall say 圣诞快乐

festive love,
Christmas Carol xoxo

PS. These are my two favouritest Christmas songs... nothing less than what you would expect from me!!!

Day 20 – The meaning behind your blog name

http://sei-maow.blogspot.com

I've had several names during this blog's life, but none ever really fit properly.  I've had "sei-maow" for a while now... at least a couple of years.  Maybe 2 or 3.  Anyway, it means "kitten" in Cantonese, literally translating to 'little/small cat'.  You pronounce it "say mao" (as in Chairman Mao).  My family speaks Cantonese with me, and this is my most often used nickname.  (My parents only call me rarely call me by my name)  My pet name from P is (sometimes) "kitten" so it is also fitting.
